The chart below shows the official number of children in your state’s foster care system waiting for adoptive families. The numbers in the chart reflect the numbers reported by states to the federal government. The number of waiting children in the chart is generally higher than the actual number because many of the kids identified in the numbers have already been placed in pre-adoptive homes and are awaiting finalization. Others are placed with relatives or in permanent guardianship. The powerful point illustrated in the chart below is this: with the number of churches in the U.S., why should we have any waiting children in U.S. foster care?
